Research Synopsis

I conduct research in the general areas of worker motivation, attitudes and values, and self-identity. Much of this work examines how organizational phenomena, such as leader actions and experiences of (un)fairness, affect basic employee motivations and identities. Such effects include changes in motivation orientation (e.g., shifting between promotion and prevention regulatory foci), affect, self-identity (e.g., shifting between independent and interdependent identities), and the goals that employees subsequently pursue. Currently, I am also examining attitudinal and behavioral consequences that occur at implicit levels (i.e., outside of people’s awareness and control).
