Transfer Students
Transferring Credits
Those wishing to transfer graduate course work from another university will need
to provide a syllabus and any other documents that describe the nature of the course
taken. After consulting with your advisor about whether to seek a waiver, the approval
of both the professor who teaches the course and the graduate program committee
is required. University policy states that only eight transfer credits can count
toward graduation, but there is no official limit on the number of departmental
courses that can be waived (within reason).
Transferring a Master’s Thesis
Entering students who have completed a master’s thesis at another psychology
department may request that the thesis be reviewed for acceptance at the University
of South Florida. A committee of psychology faculty members will decide if it meets
the department’s standards (e.g., a well-written and well-designed empirical
study with rigorous data analysis). This process can begin only after you have been
accepted into the program. If the masters thesis is accepted, students are allowed
to transfer 30 credits from their masters program (if the courses are accepted by
USF).
